Coming To Rosemont
From BookLife:
“In this series opener, Hinske immerses readers in a delightful small town….The joys of the tale come from the warm relationships and the story of a woman getting a second chance at life and love.” Publishers Weekly (Booklife)
Forensic accountant Maggie Martin survives the sudden death of her husband, the charismatic President of Windsor College, only to uncover the secrets of his carefully-concealed double life. Dealing with the financial and emotional wreckage left in Paul’s wake, she is stunned to learn he inherited an estate known as Rosemont in the seemingly-serene Midwestern town of Westbury. Why had he never told her?
Maggie travels to Westbury for the stated purpose of listing Rosemont for immediate sale, but what she really seeks are answers to her all-consuming questions about her sham of a marriage; her sham of a life. She never anticipated the seductive charm of Rosemont. Throwing her trademark caution to the wind, and over the objections of her opinionated grown children, she pulls up stakes and moves halfway across the country, determined to make a fresh start in Westbury. Behind closed doors, however, lurks a cadre of evildoers, playing with multiple wild cards of fraud, embezzlement and arson.
With a quiet, orderly – and distinctively solitary – life in mind, Maggie is instead thrown headlong into a crusade against political corruption, where defeat and retreat are not an option. Still bearing the scars of betrayal, will she find joy, romance and possibility in Westbury?
This fast-paced, smart novel has enough twists and turns to make the reader want to buckle in!

Coming To Rosemont is that special kind of book you never want to end. Thank goodness Barbara Hinske has more “Rosemont’s” in the works!
This is the perfect novel to curl up on the couch with and escape into the romantic world of a woman who is reinventing her life. Wonderful characters and story line had me lost in the visual impression I have of Rosemont. I can’t wait to read the next installment in the series.
Coming to Rosemont was one of easiest-reading novels I’ve enjoyed in years. It almost reads itself. It has fun characters that feel just like some friends that you know and believable villains that you wish you didn’t. It portrays the small midwest town in a real way. Thoroughly enjoyable. I will definitely read the follow-up novel.
Great story set in a small town! It kept my attention as a big city guy. The author paid great attention to detail and made every day life in a small town interesting and thought provoking. It makes you wonder how common it is that town officials misuse their positions for personal gain. Reagan was right: “trust but verify”! Well done Ms. Hinske!
In this series opener, Hinske immerses readers in a delightful small town. Forensic accountant Maggie Martin is recently widowed and has learned, to her chagrin, that her dead husband, Paul, was keeping many secrets from her. He had been embezzling from the university of which he was president for years, and he had a secret family. He was also heir to a huge estate called Rosemont, in the small Midwestern town of Westbury. He leaves Rosemont to Maggie, and when she visits, intending to sell the estate, she falls in love with the place and moves in immediately, yearning for a fresh start. She finds herself enmeshed in the Westbury intrigue of crooked city politicians who have been stealing from the pension fund and the townspeople who want answers. Maggie throws herself headfirst into helping out, forming an alliance with local prosecutors and townsfolk. In the process, she meets John, a local veterinarian, who may be falling in love with her. The joys of the tale come from the warm relationships and the story of a woman getting a second chance at life and love.
In a category that doesn’t often feature felonious crimes as a main plot point, it’s somewhat surprising to see this title — with corruption, fraud, and arson coursing through the story — in a list of top performers. But with enough twists and turns to hook any reader’s attention, an adorable dog on the cover, and some classic women’s fiction tropes, Coming To Rosemont delivered more than enough firepower to win over our readers!
Coming to Rosemont is a captivating story of Maggie Martin, a soft-spoken woman who has lived for years in the shadow of her influential husband, while quietly building a successful career as a forensic accountant. When her husband’s untimely death leads to the discovery of his double life, a life of marital betrayal and deception, her initial shame gradually turns to a steely resolve to start a new life. The star of this fresh, new novel is Maggie’s surprise inheritance, Rosemont, a mansion and estate in disrepair half way across the country in a small Midwestern town. In many ways Rosemont is a mystical reflection of the greatness inside of Maggie, just waiting to break free. Isolated, empty and neglected, Rosemont has waited for years for Maggie to come home and bring it to life. It’s the epicenter of the story. This delightful novel takes off with a roar from the first few pages and never lets you put it down. Maggie’s inheritance thrusts her into a delightful adventure with new friends, a supportive community, a precious little dog named Eve and the promise of romance. But as she soon discovers, the idyllic small town where Rosemont is located has its own dark secrets, much like her deceased husband. This time, Maggie will not be deceived as she courageously exposes the powerful forces that control the town. Coming to Rosemont is a real page turner. I highly recommend it.
If you love being transformed to an old English manor, surrounded by intrigue, mystery, antiques, fine China, and romance then this is the book for you! I loved disappearing into Maggie’s life and cannot wait for the next book! This book made me want to move to a quaint community like Westbury and search for a place like Rosemont. What a great escape. Barbara Hinske is now on my favorite author list
Coming to Rosement came at the perfect moment . . . deperately needing escape time from the hustle bustle of a far too busy life I found a kindred soul in Maggie! I traveled with Maggie (albeit from the comfort of my couch) from one home to the next as she began the reinvention of her life. Maggie is a strong, independent woman that followed her instincts without compromise and created a wonderful life for herself and her “companion”. I’m anxious for Maggie’s next adventure! Thank you Barbara Hinske for sharing your writing with all book readers!
I got my first Kindle on New Year’s Eve and promptly ordered my first 3 e-books. Today I settled in to read my first e-book “COMING TO ROSEMONT“. I’ll admit that this was also my first romantic novel. I loved it. The author “set the table” in a comfortable fashion, and before I knew it, all of the pages blew past in a blur that I was unable to stop. Finished the book before I even noticed that several of my intended New Year football games had come and gone. Damn it! What’s New Year’s Day without football? Well, I can say without reservation that I will impatiently await the next book in this series. Kudos to Barbara Hinske, I feel I know the town and the lineup of characters as if I had just spent an enjoyable day with them. It took me back to a simpler time and place that I wish I could find in my own life.
What a delightful read! I downloaded the Kindle edition to my iPad and ended up bringing my iPad with me everywhere just so I could continue reading Coming To Rosemont at every opportunity. I could not wait to find out what happened next yet, at the same time, did not want it to end. I look forward to following Maggie’s adventures in the next installment in the series.
Shh, don’t tell anyone I read a ‘Romance’ novel! It is not exactly my normal Patrick O’brian or Bernard Cornwell fare but I enjoyed it immensely. I liked the way it reads, it seemed very natural like real people are involved and I found myself rooting for the characters. Can’t wait for the next installement!
This was a refreshing read & a lovely escape! Although I don’t normally read or recommend fiction novels, this book got me hooked. The small town setting provided a charming backdrop for the main character’s adventure into a world of intrigue and personal renewal. Maggie is a middle-aged woman faced with the type of inner turmoil that resonates with anyone who has experienced a major setback. Throughout the story, she demonstrates the determination and optimism that enable her to reclaim her true nature & inspire others. I was engrossed by the book’s sinister sub-plots & diverse characters — all of which were well-developed and kept me engaged to the last page. I can’t wait for the next book from this terrific new author!

Maggie Martin has spent her entire married life as the woman behind the powerful man. When her husband suddenly dies, she learns that not all has been what it seemed. Among the many things that her husband has hidden from her is a house that she never knew he owned . . .
Grandma was delighted last week to find a copy of Coming to Rosemont in her mailbox from author Barbara Hinske. A gentle, easy to read tale that is full of optimism and hope despite all odds, this is a book that I greatly enjoyed. If you’re like Grandma and learned long ago to never leave home without reading material, this is a great candidate. Grandma’s $0.02 – Fun to read, great for those who love a gentle romance. Recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Coming to Rosemont. The sudden death of her husband upends Maggies life and sets the stage for her imagination to take flight. Her life as backdrop to her husband and children’s lives falls away as she becomes free to create a new life for herself. The story builds with romance and mystery enough to keep you turning the pages and wishing your own life could be on hold for a few hours while you enjoy watching Maggie blossom. I can’t wait to read this with my book club.

What a delightful escape I had, curling up into Maggie’s life. Coming to Rosemont has some mystery, a tinge of romance, plus personal growth in the life a woman whose world has been turned upside down. Hinske also brings out some wayward characters who provide twists and turns in the plot. I loved the way Maggie took charge of her life in spite of the pain she had suffered, and found adventure where she didn’t expect it. Probably the most telling part of this recommendation is that I didn’t want the book to end.
